How to Start Writing a Speech | Media Training | Public Speaking | Presentation Skills

What is the number one best way to start writing your speech or preparing a major presentation? My advice is this: put away your pen, put away your pencil, put away your cell phone, and go for a walk. Go for a walk in the woods- preferably by yourself- and just think about a couple of things.

Number 1: What is it that I want my audience to really do after they have heard me speak?

Number 2: What are the big ideas or the most important messages that I think are extremely essential for me to convey on this topic? What ideas are going to be interesting, relevant, and useful to my audience so I am actually able to motivate them to do what I want them to do?

So go for that long walk now before you ever type the first letter. That is the best way to write a speech or presentation.
