‘Oprah Winfrey Show’ Ends After 25 Years -Media Training


The ‘Oprah Winfrey Show‘ came to an end yesterday and with it came the end of an economic boon for so many products, books and movies that she promoted. Over the last few years Oprah had, at times, become a one woman economic stimulus plan.

A mention as one of Oprah’s ‘favorite things’ could send a product skyrocketing to the stratosphere of popularity. Most obviously was Oprah’s book club. Being picked would be a surefire ticket to the top of the best seller list.

As Oprah transitions from her daily talk show to focus on her OWN tv network it will be interesting to see the ‘Oprah Effect’ will follow with her. Will her fans follow to the new channel. Will she be able to launch breakout stars like Dr. Oz and Dr. Phil from her new network?

The returns so far are not to promising. The OWN Network is getting lower ratings than the Discovery Health channel that it replaced. This does not mean that her fans will not follow but it does show that Oprah is not all powerful when it comes to ratings.
