Few people understand how to make gays and lesbians love brands more than Matt Tumminello, President of Target 10, the #1 gay marketing agency for leading consumer brands, products and services.
Tumminello recently sat down with Mike Bako, host of Inside Communications on Speaking Channel TV, to discuss why reaching the gay and lesbian market is so important for brands, including the fact that these consumers have a greater buying power than found in general market. Together, they also discuss examples of some major brands that are making an impact and how they are going about it.
Opening his agency’s doors 10 years ago, Tumminello entered a market that was largely overlooked. However, in the last decade, many companies have come to understand the importance of reaching gays and lesbians. Speaking to what is on the horizon for the next 10 years, Tumminello foresees greater visibility and inclusion of gay and lesbian marketing in the general market media.
“Gays and lesbians are not used to seeing themselves represented in the media,” explained Tumminello. “When they see a brand taking that bold step and saying ‘we’re talking directly to you,’ and the whole world can see this, it really makes an impact.”
