What if i tell you that i can make you as good a speaker as John F Kennedy? Kennedy was one of the most renowned and accomplished orators of the twentieth century. So, how can i claim that?
The secret to becoming as good of a speaker is to watch and learn. What you need to do is listen to Kennedy speak when he was in college. He was not a child at that point and could very well be defined as a man by legal definition. Very recently, Harvard University released some recordings of Kennedy which had somehow miraculously been taped and saved as he was giving a presentation in a class. What you detect from listening to these recording is that he was nothing impressive at all. He would stammer here and there, make the mistake of saying ‘ums’ and ‘ahs’, and just giving an overall ordinary presentation.
So the real lesson here is that there is no one who is naturally born with the skill to speak- speaking well is a learned skill and it can be learned by anyone. Everyone starts off on the same ground: bad. If you want to be better, you cannot just tell yourself that you are not a natural born speaker, because no one is. You can get better by practicing and getting help.
