There is Always Time to be Prepared for Anything Important | Media Training
I often hear this “TJ, I’d like to train or rehearse for the big speech or interview coming up, but there is no time.” What the executive is really telling me is that giving a speech or acing a media interview is just not important. Everyone has the same amount of time, every day.
Earlier this week, a client of mine found out that he was going on a national TV news network here in New York within 24 hours. He flew from the south and arrived in New York at 1 AM. He showed up at my training studio at 8:30 AM and we rehearsed till 12:30 PM, just in time for his early afternoon live interview.
He did a tremendous job on the interview, looked great, and hit all his message points and sound bites. It couldn’t have gone better.
So did he have time to do the media interview training and rehearsal? No.
He only had 3 hours of sleep.
But he did MAKE time for the media training/rehearsal. And it paid off.
Please keep in mind, nobody ever has time to rehearse or train for major speeches or media interviews. You either make time or you don’t because you have decided the speech or interview is important or not. But if it isn’t important, why are you doing the speech or interview in the first place?
