Quick Wins! Appear to Speak Without Notes, Avoid Verbal Tics, Teleprompter Tricks
Let’s hop right in. Your time is really valuable and I want to give you some quick wins. There is a way to cheat when it comes to public speaking and do not worry, it is completely legal and ethical. I do it all the time and no one in my audience has any idea.
Here is a tip: use a cheat sheet. I take a one hour speech and I write my cheat sheet in bold and large capital letters and it tells me everything I need to know. And because it is a single sheet, I do not have to pick it up or turn papers or even read over the PowerPoint slides. This way, I can appear to just be talking to people throughout a presentation and I come across as more natural, relaxed, comfortable, and confident.
The second tip is that I actually print out 3 copies of my notes and I place them around different parts of the room where I am supposed to present. That way, I can have one on top of my lectern, another on the water table, and one at the back of the room. To everyone else, it appears as though I am just naturally and confidently walking around the room like a professional speaker. Here is a secret: I have a horrible memory, but it does not matter because I have a roadmap in the form of a single page of notes.
The third tip is the single biggest thing you can do to train like the masters of yesteryear who had million dollar budgets for every aspect of marketing. Your secret is your cell phone. The biggest tip of all is that you need to practice any speech or presentation you have by recording yourself on video with your cell phone. The lighting or shaky camera does not matter at all. Just record yourself, watch it, figure out what you like and what you do not like, and keep practicing until you figure out exactly what you need to do to become a better speaker and you love what you hear and see. That is the single biggest tip that is going to help you build confidence.
Here is a fourth bonus tip for you: this is how you should start off presentations- focus on something interesting for your audience which is not about yourself. I do not start my courses or videos by telling you a short autobiography of myself. The biggest problem that most people have with speaking and why they are nervous at the beginning is because it is boring. They are just talking about themselves. Talk about your audience or talk to them. If you talk about something that is interesting to them then they will love to learn more about you.
At the end of it all, you need to try and exceed expectations always. Just like I promised to give you 3 tips at the beginning, and here we are at 5!
Promo Video The Complete Public Speaking Masterclass For Every Occasion
Do you like the special effects? Do you like the flashy graphics and the music that are used in my videos? Guess what? There is none of that in any of my courses or videos. This course is about public speaking. Part of what makes speaking scary to people is that you cannot hide behind music and special effects or even graphics. It is just you and people are looking at you. So I am going to demonstrate best practices throughout this course.
You are going to learn how to come across as comfortable, confident, and relaxed in any type of speaking situation regardless of whether it is a small or large group. You are going to learn how to speak in a way that people really understand you. And you are going to learn how to speak so that people remember your key messages. That is actually the hardest part for most people. It is not their verbal tics or what they need to do with their hands when they are standing on stage. It is actually getting your audience to remember what your messages are. You will also learn how to influence your audience. That is why we are speaking- so that we can get people to do something that we want them to do. That is the ultimate goal.
I am TJ Walker and I will be honest with you that I am not nearly as talented as some of the public speaking coaches on Udemy. I see some of the coaches and they are Wall Street wizards or they are concert pianists and they have courses on all sorts of things. I am not that good and I only know one thing and that is how to teach people how to speak. That is what I have been doing my entire adult life and for more than 30 years, I have coached more than a thousand people in real life all over the globe on how to be a better speaker and communicate well.
Here, I am bringing that wisdom and experience to this course. How does that benefit you? It means that I have already have dealt with people who have the exact same issues that you have and so I know how I can get you to be better at your skill level.
This course is different. Do not be intimidated by how gigantic or large it is. You do not have to go through all of it. If you just need to speed in one direction, you can do what you really need to do in 90 minutes. This course is supposed to be a one stop shop. I have condensed all of my best courses on Udemy into one single course so you will never need anything more than this when it comes to public speaking.
If you have a new question, just ask me and I will answer you in a new video on my YouTube channel which is associated with this course. I am here for you and this is what I do.
