This report will rate you qualitatively and quantitatively on a

Just send Media Training Worldwide your video tapes (audiotapes, if you have no video), and we will send you your IQommunicate™ evaluation.
QuoteDoctor Diagnostic™
The QuoteDoctor Diagnostic™ began as a monthly column in Investor Relations Magazine written by TJ Walker. Each column would dissect the best and worst quotes of the month by leading corporate CEOs in the Wall Street Journal and New York Times. Using a proprietary analysis, Walker would explain in clinical detail exactly why the executive’s statements were quoted.
Now, the QuoteDoctor Diagnostic™ is also available to clients and friends of Media Training Worldwide. Simply fax or email news articles that contain your quotes to sharon@mediatrainingworldwide.com or 813-655-3383 to receive a precise diagnosis of your news media quotes.
Quote Controller ™
We have just updated our software tool that helps our clients have greater control over their message, quotes and sound bites when dealing with the media. Media Training Worldwide's Quote Controller™ software is designed for people who want a clearer, simpler and more focused way to prepare for interviews. The program guides you through the process of narrowing your message point down to three points, creating a couple of sound bites for each message point, and ending up with a single page that can be printed and used as the final preparation for interviews.

Talking Points
The Basic Building Block of Every Good Presentation and Media Interview
“I don’t want to seem canned by using a script. I’d rather be spontaneous and just ‘wing it’.” Former high paid executive
Nothing could be more foolish than “winging it” through an interview or speech. Presenters who seem the most “spontaneous” (think Robin Williams) actually rehearse each line hundreds of times in advance of any talk show appearance. Fortunately, for business communicators, it is not essential to memorize a script or to regurgitate facts in sequential order. The important thing is to go into any interview or speaking opportunity with a clear idea of a simple, three-part message (talking points) that can be summed up in 30 seconds that you want your audience or the readers, viewers or listeners to remember after you have stopped talking.
Talking points are as essential to you as a presenter as a road map is to a driver. If you go into an interview without an agenda, your talking points, then you are simply reacting to the question and issues brought up by the reporter. You might show your knowledge and be helpful to the reporter, but how have you helped your business? Skilled business communicators learn how to answer reporter’s questions (not dodge them) AND bridge back to their message points throughout an interview. Memorable business speakers start by asking themselves “how would someone in my audience describe my 20 minute presentation in thirty seconds tomorrow around the water cooler to someone who couldn’t attend my presentation?”
TOP 5 Media Tips
When preparing for media interviews.
1. Internalize your talking points.
2. Simplify, avoid complexity whenever possible.
3. Frame your messages in a positive way; never be defensive.
4. Answer questions briefly, then bridge back to your talking points.
5. Don’t “guess.” Say, “I don’t know, but I will find out for you.”
TOP 5 Presentation Tips
When preparing for presentation opportunities.
1. Have just a few basic themes you wish to communicate.
2. Abstractions are your enemy as a speaker. (Give visual examples.)
3. The fewer facts and figures you use the better.
4. Demonstrate each important point with a story featuring real examples and dialogues from clients, customers and colleagues.
5. Have all your stories focus on your talking points.

REFERENCES FROM OUR CLIENTS
"My name is Michael Gallant and I am the director of public relations for EMC Corporation. We were fortunate to have TJ Walker in for a day of public relations and media training and I can tell you his approach was superb. He was able to help my entire team operate more efficiently (and) maximize their message penetration to their audience. I can tell you his pace was incredible, he was extremely articulate and he got the whole group involved. We really enjoyed the day."
Michael Gallant, Director of Public Relations for EMC
“I put the skills learned in your seminar to excellent use. I was told by the producer that it was refreshing to work with someone who was comfortable in front of the camera and could get their message points out. So, kudos to you for training me! It was a wonderful experience. “ Roxanne Moster, UCLA
“I recently had an occasion to address a TV crew concerning the sale of our business being announced. I prepared my "three key points" and kept stating them repeatedly. I did several seconds of air time but was edited to only one key point. When the interview was completed the news reporter commented "you have done this before". Actually I had not, but the Worldwide Media training I received in Chicago really worked. Thanks for giving me the "how to do" and confidence.” Bill Stricklen, Human Resources Manager, Akzo Nobel Functional Chemicals LLC
"I was particularly pleased with the way Media Training Worldwide customized my training session. They previewed and critiqued my videos and the trainer covered many topics never addressed for me in previous training sessions with other companies."
Bonnie Taub-Dix, MA,RD,CDN, Media Representative, New York State Dietetic Association
"I spent two sessions with TJ, prior to beginning my book tour. The difference is amazing. I have never again used a card or notes or hidden behind a lectern. It’s as if TJ freed me to engage an audience with my entire personality…telling stories, getting to key points and really making an impact. Since then, I have given dozens of speeches and am now invited frequently for keynotes."

Speaking/Presentation Tips
1. Don't eat a big meal before speaking;it will make you sleepy.
2. Don't eat sugary deserts before speaking; they will thicken your saliva.
3. If you repeat yourself in an interesting way constantly using different examples, facts and anecdotes, no one will ever accuse you of repeating yourself too often.
4. There is nothing virtuous about "thinking on your feet" when used as an excuse not to prepare in advance.
TV/Media Tips
5. Don't wear black clothing on TV. Black is too harsh and can suck up all the light.
6. Return reporter's phone calls within 30 seconds. That doesn't mean you have to give the interview right away, but you need to let the reporter know you are available and will get back within the deadline, even if that deadline is in 5 minutes.
7. If you prepare your sound bites in advance, all of your interviews will be done faster and you will have a net savings of time.
8. If you do or wear anything distracting on TV, people will remember that and nothing you say.
Crisis Communications Tips
9. Never forget that you know much more about your business than any reporter does.
10. Beware the inclination of not talking about a crisis; you'll only make matters worse.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What do you do?
We help executives become better communicators for media and speaking opportunities. We find out our clients' needs, create a specific series of videotaped exercises and simulated TV/media interview or speaking situations and then practice, practice, practice.
What is your approach to media training?
Our approach is to treat each person based on his or her needs, and not use some cookie cutter format workshop. (We ask that all clients fill out an extensive needs assessment to help us better prepare for the training session.) Every training session is unique to the person or persons trained. The one constant in every training session is that the client spends a great deal of time in front of the camera being recorded during interview situations, and then watching the performances on instant playback with critiques.
What is unique about your approach?
Media Training Worldwide believes that the best way to learn how to be a better communicator in the media or to speaking audiences is through experience--by performing in front of a video camera and then watching oneself on a screen and receiving personalized critiques. HOWEVER, we do not believe anyone can become a great communicator after a one or two day training session anymore than one can become an excellent writer or jazz musician after a one day course. That is why we have created an entire continuing education process to help our trainees improve their presentation skills on a regular basis. We start by asking every trainee to fill out a lengthy and detailed needs assessment. This helps us prepare better for the actual training session, but it also encourages the trainee to begin serious thought about his or her own speaking needs and improvement goals.
Next, we provide every trainee with our book, "1001 Ways to Wow the Media and Speaking Audiences." Many trainees feel their knowledge retention rate is much higher after their training session, if they have been exposed to many of the training principles in advance. Next, each trainee is sent one or more presentation training videos and audios to review in preparation for the training session. Thirty days before the live training session is to take place, trainees are given special access to the MEDIA TRAINING WORLDWIDE online media training school. On this clients'- only site, trainees can listen to nearly two dozen audio lectures on such topics as how to create sound bites and stick to a message.
Then, the actual training day takes place at your location or at the Media Training Worldwide Broadcast Center in New York. With most presentation trainers, that is where the training ends. We believe that, while live, in-person video training is THE MOST important step, it is still only one step in the improvement process. That is why every trainee is given a free media/presentation tips newsletter, filled with helpful reminders, every two weeks for three years. Additionally, trainees will have access to the client online media school for one year.
Example of how this would be useful. A trainee spent most of the live training session preparing for a CNBC TV interview the next day. Two months later the trainee may have a radio interview. At that time, the trainee would be able to access the online training school and listen to the specific tutorial on talk radio.
Finally, every client receives a new media/presentation instructional video once a month AT NO EXTRA CHARGE for one year. The videos include such topics as how to give better interviews over the telephone and how to improve PowerPoint presentations.
All of these additional products and services are included in the same base price for the full-day, half-day or two day training session. There are no extra charges. (None of these products, services or access to the online school are available for purchase or sale; they can only be utilized in conjunction with the live training sessions.)
What if I'm in a big hurry? Can I schedule a training session for tomorrow without dealing with all of the other audios, videos, etc?
Yes, providing we have a trainer available. Every effort will be made to meet last minute or crisis situation needs.
What skills can you teach in your media training?
Developing a message, Bridging to message points, Controlling your message, Answering questions, Identifying loaded questions, Handling hostile interviews, Crisis communications, Artful repetition, Being persuasive, Reducing nervousness, Creating sound bites, Establishing ground rules for interviews, Looking good on TV, Improving body language, Using TelePrompTers/earpieces/microphones, Improving wardrobe, Using makeup, Speaking straight into the camera for satellite interviews, Getting more out of rehearsal and Dealing with producers.
What media opportunities do you help clients prepare for?
Live TV, TV talk shows, In-studio interviews, Live Radio, Radio Talk shows, Edited news programs, Telephone interviews, Press conferences, Ambush interviews, Newspaper interviews, Editorial board meetings, Internet interviews, Training videos, Book tours, and Spokesperson training.
Do you also do speech and presentation training?
Yes, though they are different from media training. Speech training also involves numerous videotaped rehearsals followed by systematic critiques.
What skills are taught in your presentation training?
Reducing nervousness, Developing stories/vignettes, Creating dialogue, Being persuasive, Developing deeper eye contact, Improving body language, Connecting with the audience, Improving voice control, Creating star persona, Developing a strong opening, Handling questions and answers, Delivering PowerPoint presentations, Using visuals, Rehearsing speeches, Improving body language, and Creating a long term improvement plan.

Do you have a studio?
Yes, we have a training studio for training in Midtown Manhattan. We are located at 110 W. 40th St., New York, NY 10018 in the Times Square Area.
Do you travel? Come to us?
Yes, we can come to you. We bring the video camera, lights, microphones and other necessary equipment.
What programs do you offer?
We offer 2-day, full-day and half-day programs.
Do you train groups of people?
Yes, from 2 to as many as 400. However, the more people in a group, the less time each person spends in front of a camera, the less improvement is seen.
Do you have previous clients and references?
Yes, please go to our client page, and then click on the reference page.
What is the range of your experience?
All of our trainers have substantial business experience, including investor relations experience. We have trained thousands of executives, authors, lawmakers, candidates, doctors, administrators, and civic leaders over the last 18 years. For more on our backgrounds, please go to our bio page.
What should people look for in a presentation coach?
Range of experience and a personal comfort level. A good presentation coach is like a psychiatrist. You need to be able to share anxieties and concerns about your appearance, your turkey neck, facial wrinkles. You need someone who can tell you if you sound like a pompous windbag without either one of you becoming uncomfortable.
Training Follow up
How do you follow up with clients after you have trained them?
1. We ask them to fill out our post training evaluation form.
2. They receive a free lifetime subscription to our media/presentation tips email newsletter and free monthly training videos.
