PUBLIC SPEAKING EXPERT DISSECTS GOLDEN GLOBE SPEECHES

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) -- A public speaking expert is sharing how some acceptance speeches at Monday's (Jan. 16)

Golden Globes turned winners into public speaking losers. T.J. Walker, president of Media Training Worldwide, cites Joaquin Phoenix's acceptance speech for Best Actor as one of the worst, saying it was "about as memorable as an airline attendant instructing someone how to put a seatbelt on." He also calls Cecil B. DeMille award winner Anthony Hopkins' speech "just a snooze" and was especially disappointed because, "Here is a guy who knew he was speaking." Walker thinks Mary Louise Parker's spacey speech left much to be desired, and speculates she didn't prepare because she figured she didn't have a chance against the "army of hotties from Desperate Housewives." It may all sound harsh, but Walker says he holds celebrities to high standards because, "They're being paid tens of millions of dollars to be public speakers." In his opinion, the "money" speech of the night came from Geena Davis, who mocked herself, politics and award shows and thanked all the appropriate people in under a minute.
