Speaking/Presentation Tips

1. If you are speaking while sitting down, don't lean on the table and don't lean back in your chair too far.

2. Don't stare at people's noses--look into their eyes.

3. Not rehearsing your speech because you want to seem "spontaneous" is a silly excuse that fools no one.

4. Always have extra material available in case you are asked to speak longer.

5. Try to avoid a stationary microphone

TV/Media Tips

6. Never ask "can the camera be turned off?"

7. Television will suck the natural energy out of your voice.

8. Speak louder and with more energy than usual-but DON'T YELL.

9. Sarcasm doesn't work for TV, radio or print.

10. Don't wear glasses that darken when exposed to more light. The TV lights will make the glasses get dark. This will obscure your eyes and make you seem untrustworthy.
