Speaking/Presentation Tips

1. If you do have to use notes, don't use them in the first 60 seconds of your speech.

2. Don't blow or tap on the microphone.

3. If you speak a little louder than usual, you will expend energy that will make you less nervous.

4. Don't ask the audience manipulative questions that insult their intelligence like, "how many of you wish you had more money?"

5. Don't use words in a speech that you wouldn't use in a normal conversation.

TV/Media Tips

6. The more often you do TV interviews, the better you will get--but only if you review the tape each time and try to improve.

7. Drink plenty of water before the interview, or your mouth will get dry and you will lick your lips on camera in a distracting manner.

8. When sitting in a chair that swivels, DON'T SWIVEL. Move the top half of your body, but keep the bottom half frozen.

9. Don't assume the camera isn't recording just because the light is off.

10. If a talk show producer really liked your performance, ask if you can be scheduled right away for your next appearance.
