Speaking/Presentation Tips
1. If you have more than five main messages, write an article or book, but leave them out of your verbal presentation.
2. Do not commit a speech to memory. If you sound like you are reading a speech off of the teleprompter in your brain, you will sound just as canned and phony as if you had the script in front of you.
3. If you get loud feedback from your microphone, quickly turn it off, walk further away from the speakers, and then turn the mic back on.
4. If music is being piped in to the room where you are speaking, ask for it to be shut off.
5. Bring an element of joy to your speaking opportunities. If it's not fun for you, it won't be fun for your audience.
TV/Media Tips
6. Don't wear stripes, herringbone, small intricate designs or flashy jewelry. They are hard for a TV camera to pick up on.
7. Wear makeup. If you don't wear powder on your nose, forehead and face, you will look shiny, oily and plastic.
8. If you are nervous on TV, you are likely to speaker softer and flatter than usual.
9. Compensate in advance by speaking louder AND with more energy than usual.
10. You need to speak with more range and variety when on camera. If you JUST speak with more volume, you'll seem unnatural.
